Meet the Chaves Family
We are Juan and Lucrecia Chaves, and we are excited to share the incredible desire God has placed on our hearts to serve as missionaries with Grace Ministries International (GMI).
We are from Costa Rica and have been married for eleven years. We have two children—our seven-year-old daughter, Emma, and our two-year-old son, Lucas.
We have faithfully served in our church, Comunidad Bíblica de la Gracia (Grace Bible Community) in San Antonio de Belén, Costa Rica, for over twenty years.
Our Roles
Juan serves as the youth pastor at our church, and together we also operate a graphic design and marketing business. In addition to running the business, Juan uses his skills to support the church’s website and assist with technology at the GMI-affiliated Costa Rica Grace Bible Institute, where he also teaches.
As a family, we are actively involved in ministries such as discipling young people, preaching (Juan), and teaching Sunday school.
Lucrecia has completed advanced studies in civil engineering from the Costa Rica Institute of Technology and also has theological training from the Grace Bible Institute in Costa Rica. She is actively involved in leading discipleship groups for young women, planning youth activities, and teaching Sunday school. She has a compassionate heart and is always willing to help and serve others.
Joining Grace Ministries International
The Lord recently opened a door for us to join GMI—an organization dedicated to sending and supporting missionaries worldwide—as part of their team in Paraguay. GMI’s mission is to share God’s grace with the world, and we look forward to being part of this global vision.
Their work has deeply impacted us as we’ve seen God use ordinary people to do extraordinary things in countries far from their own.
All of this has inspired us to step out in faith and answer God’s call to missions. Specifically, God has placed a burden on our hearts to support the GMI missionary team in Ciudad del Este, Paraguay, a city near the borders of Paraguay, Brazil, and Argentina (the tri-border region of South America).
This is a strategic location where cultures and nations intersect, and the team there is working tirelessly to share the gospel, plant churches, and disciple new believers. We feel privileged to join them in this life-transforming mission.
Our desire to serve in missions has grown as we’ve reflected on how others have faithfully answered God’s call and expanded the reach of the gospel across the world. Their example has encouraged us to move beyond our comfort zone and take this step of faith. However, we cannot do this alone.
